I am having difficulty verifying a site in Google Webmaster Tools.

I have used the Meta Tag technique and the file upload technique, but neither will work. I keep getting the "Not Verified" message.

I have uploaded a sitemap etc.

I have lots of other sites verified but for some reason this site will not verify.

Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Try the body code, insert google code to your body in your homepage.
Meta verifying is more difficult.

Did you follow the right steps in submitting your sitemap? I used the meta tag method and it worked. Can you kindly specify the steps you've done in submitting your meta tag? This will allow us to further help you.

Remove the site - redo the verification and get a new meta element code.

I had to verify a couple of my sites twice.

This, and also check that you remove any old HTML or Meta tag verification codes before you re-verify otherwise Google will still pickup the old verification code and deny it for not matching.

OK, I will try removing the site and re-do everything and let ye know how I got on. Thanks for the help.

OK, I completed the steps below but it still did not work.

Same message when i click verify: "Verification status: NOT VERIFIED ".

1. I deleted site from Webmaster Tools Dashboard and logged out of Webmaster Tools and logged back in again.
2. I removed the google meta tag element from my index.htm file and uploaded to server
3. I created the site again on my dashboard and generated a new meta tag element
4. Uploaded the "sitemap.xml" file
5. Added the new meta tag element to my "index.htm" file and uploaded to server.
6. Returned to Webmaster Tools dashboard and click "Verify" and then I get the error message again - "Verification status: NOT VERIFIED"

After doing the steps above and using the meta tag method it did not verify.

I tried the HTML file method agian and this time it verified.

I did nothing different than I did the first time, just one of those things I guess.

I am having the same issue about the verify. I have about 30 sites that work fine. I notice that Bing is down and having similar issues. Is the google setup with the same things as bing? You can't add a site to Bing right now either. I was able to add a site to google sites ok but none of the new ones will verify. Funny, there is no link to a forum in the google webmaster tool area. Do they not want to know about problems? If anyone has any new info, it would be appreciated.

I had trouble with the meta tag method the other day, switched to the html method and it works just fine - and they GIVE you the file name, just copy it, add a new text file, copy in that name for the file name and you're done.
