9/10 searches in the UK were powered by Google. Yahoo and MSN were 4 and 3 percent respectively.

Google has definitely changed the face of the internet - some believe for the good of the net, others would argue with that.

People critical of Google point to their domination of natural search as well as PPC advertising. At this point in time, who could possibly from from under the rug to challenge Google at what they're doing?

What are your thoughts?

Would you want to see a serious Google competitor break through or are you completely satisfied with Google and what they do?

You have no idea how much work has gone into making Google. Google is fine, its facebook that I'm worried about, they are gathering tons of data about you that they may/will sell to advertisers.

Also, the new TruScoop App that allows you to PUBLICLY perform a background check on anyone for free really scares me.

Its bad enough for a company to see your history from Google, but now they can view all of my legal actions for free?

Your Parents- they can’t really ground you for smoking pot if they got arrested for possession back in the day.

Your relatives- you knew Uncle Bob was crazy, now you have proof.
ROFLMAO (from TruScoop FB app)

I am worried to sign up for that, FB does bother me because i'm afraid anything I do will be posted in some sort of broadcaster to all my friends. Does have some very nice features, I love that all the profiles are somewhat the same, not loading 100 videos like myspace.

I think google is ok. Not to say that they will last forever. You never know, someone could beat them but I doubt it will be MSN and Yahoo. I would be that the majority of their searches are from being homepages on computers. IE usually has MSN, and at school and many other public places I have used the web they seem to go for yahoo as the homepage.

I don't think Google is too dominant. Google is always looking to improve the 'user experience' and people like that.

If you don't know there is a search history of everything we do on google, that is associated with google accounts..

I personally think they are too dominant. They are no longer focused purely on the user experience. These days they are more focused on making more money through their ad network. They don't care who's toes they step on in this attempt to increase ad revenue. They care more about expanding their market share through things like cell phones and web browsers. Before you know it there will be a Google car with Google chrome installed on a dashboard monitor.

They are trying to rule the internet with their dominance. They are trying to change the rules in the middle of the game. They are fighting an ongoing battle with webmasters over which strategies Google doesn't like. They force rules upon us like the rel="nofollow" tag. As far as they are concerned they know you have to listen to what they say or risk losing 75% of your traffic & sales.

They are also quick to ban people from AdSense for life at the slightest suspicion that you are involved with click fraud.

They are also quick to drastically change their algorithm and leave thousands of websites SOL.

They simply have too much power for their own good.

As of today, I really see that Google dominates the internet. If you are wondering if there will be someone, who can beat them, we will never know. It is a very different situation now. Their service and products are very well studied and useful to each and everyone of us.

Again, we'll never know what the future holds for Google. For now, let's take the pleasure to enjoy what they offer.

I don't think that google dominance is a huge issue to worry about. Users opt for google for a reason. They continuously find what they want in the web and then stick to google.
