I got Google slapped and my 30+ pages have been buried in the hundreds of pages from number one.

My question, what should I do?

1) Continue to write articles and build links

2) Let the domain registration laps and move on to something else

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Go get a cup of coffee and sit back. Analyze your site. What's missing? What did you do? What's wrong? Is there any major changes you made that triggered you being slapped by the big G. Then maybe just maybe, you will get something out of it.

I think you need to analyze your activities to figure out what could have caused the change, fix things if possible and continue working on your content and backlinks - this too shall pass

I would stay at if I were you, and ask yourself the questions that zeruel mentioned. Be patient with it, if you give up will never know if the situation could have gotten any better. I know someone had troubles with Google too. It first indexed a lot of their backlinks (several hundreds) and then it dropped all of them for a few months. She was patient though and she kept at it, and Google eventually came around again.

It can take a very long time to overcome Google penalties. If it were me, I would first try to get rid of anything spammy on my website and in my backlinks. If you overuse any link anchor text, try to balance that out more. Then I would leave that website alone for a while and concentrate on another website that still is in Google's good books. Monitor that penalized website and add a bit of content and new links over time. If it is still penalized a while later, try contacting Google about the problem. Usually they won't help you much, but they might state a problem they have come across. Sometimes your Google Webmaster Tools account will give hints to problems as well.

I think, what you need to do is optimize your site again and build links. Clean all the crap that you think cause the problem.

clean up whatever you suspect of being the cause then submit a reconsideration request and see how it goes.

Happens in my site too, I do nothing. After 4 days, they come back to NO 1.

You should write continually and to consistent position don't do changes in existing article post.

Completely change the home page and hope that works.
New title, meta description and content.

This has to be the most direct answer I've seen yet.

If you are doing social bookmarking then stop it for few days and start it with new description.Don't use old descriptions.Write New article by yourself use more and more keywords in article content and submit it in high page rank articles it will sure make different effect really.
