Google Dropping Pages Overnight

Hi! I'm new here, but there's no time for introductions. I'm FUR-reaking out! Google has dropped at least a dozen of my blog pages from its index since yesterday.

Naturally, I'm anxiously waiting to see them reappear, but can I expect that to happen? Is that overly optimistic? Is it because it's a blog, which seems to duplicate tags and what not?

Due to the nature of my website, I've had to create A LOT of categories and subcategories to allow for easier navigation. The content is exhaustive and extremely relevant to the topics, though. It's certainly not junk, by any means, so I can't fully understand why this has happened.

Insight? Suggestions? How do I fix it? Eek!!!

Type on google supplemental index.Google droping your pages because robot define them like they are duplicate. You didn't tell above which blog you using. If its wordpress you can fix that to replace in archive.php with the these steps:
  1. Open archive.php
  2. Search for “the_content”
  3. Replace “the_content” with “the_excerpt”
Now any of the archive modules will display as an excerpt instead of an entire post.
I hope this will help you
cheers

How do you know the pages have been dropped from the index? How many pages does your site have. When tried a site: search on the site I see listed as your home page, Google shows me it's indexed 80 pages.

Do you mean there should be more than 80 pages or do you mean some of your pages aren't ranking as well as they were? Either way it's natural for that to happen.

Can you offer more details? How long has the site been online? Is it a ranking issue or an indexing issue? Have you made any changes to the site recently? If this is about ranking what specific phrases are we talking about?

How long have been this happening? maybe it is just a fluctuation and would be back after a while? If not, consider giving some details that vangogh asked you. We might get some good idea about the problem.

Hi! Thanks for responding. Okay...Well, yesterday, if you googled "hump rhinoplasty" as keywords, you would have found http://implantintel.com/archives/hump-removal-rhinoplasty.htm in the top 20 search results. Today, it's gone and it can't be found in the index. The page is up and running on the site, but it simply isn't indexed.

This has happened almost site wide with most of the pages I uploaded within the last week. Earlier pages (all of three or four) are still appearing.

I hadn't changed a thing that I can think of, but this "vanishing" of my content has caused me to reformat like a chicken with my head cut off.

I deleted all of my tags, because I see so many of them in the search results and I'm worried about duplicate content. I downloaded All in SEO for Wordpress and clicked that "canonical urls" box. I changed the extension of my pages to .htm, because I believe they're considered more static. (Am I wrong?)

Essentially, I'm probably just digging myself deeper into a hole. This all happened overnight. I have sixty pages on the site. You're mostly seeing the tags that have been indexed. Ugh. It's an indexing issue, not a rank issue. I've never had rank, but indexed well. The site is old, technically, but it's been under construction for quite awhile. The content is all new to the site.

Any ideas? I'm so frazzled. Really in a panic.

Its happens and its no big deal.

Google looses anywhere from 30,000 - 50,000 of my forum pages on a regular basis. But in a few weeks their back. Dont worry about what google looses from your site, it will find it again.

First [url=http://www.google.com/search?q=http%3A%2F%2Fimplantintel.com%2Farchives% 2Fhump-removal-rhinoplasty.htm&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-USfficial&client=firefox-a]the page is in the index[/ur]. Not ranking and not being indexed are two different things.

I'm guessing your site is fairly new. New pages can rank well for a time before they start dropping back. You never want to panic when it comes to search engines. Usually all the changes you make while panicking end up causing more problems and it becomes really hard to tell what is or isn't causing problems.

Odds are you were ranking better than you should have before and now your pages have fallen back to where they normally will be given your current optimization.

No. In fact now that you changed them Google might see them as completely new pages and need to reindex everything. Maybe not because of the WordPress rewrites URLs. Changing the extension will do nothing to help and may hurt quite a lot.

To be honest what you mostly need to do is be patient. Your site is new. There are very few links pointing into the site. It takes time to rank well. You aren't competing for competitive terms so doing things right should help you rank reasonably well. But you can't expect to get rankings over night and if you change things in a panic you'll keep making things worse. Don't optimize for the latest tactic or because you see someone say 'x' is bad. Build your site first for real people.

Your site is on WordPress, which is good since the WordPress code is pretty good by default. Here are two posts on WordPress SEO

http://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/

http://www.nathanrice.net/blog/wordp...-optimization/

Have a look at both and then search for more of the same to understand some basics. There's plenty of info here on the forum too if you want to search. Then look to improve your site with the new knowledge you've gained.

And again don't panic. Search traffic doesn't happen overnight. If your approach is to look for instant traffic you're going to have a hard time getting any traffic.
