I have been trying to help someone with their site who accidentally blocked google from seeing their site htaccess boo boo, we have managed to get the site back to normal now, but one thing is really confusing

When you put the name of his site in google without the .com at the end his site doesnt appear first on the search results as it would any normal site, if you put the .com on it does appear. His site doesnt appear at all when u just put the name without the .com

I find this a bit odd and dont really have an explantion for this, anyone any ideas why this might happen ?

Is their sitename a generic keyword that they should definitely be first for? Some sites have a competitive keyword for their domain name that they don't rank 1st for necessarily. Do they have enough backlinks to get decent rankings? Perhaps they just need to build more links to get that ranking back.

It did used to be first, thats whats so odd about it, they have plenty of backlinks, their site did drop in serps quite a bit, not sure why but it still in top 100 for best keywords.

A bit of an odd problem, maybe it will resolve itself in time who knows, seems there is no clear answer.
