My home page has almost no real text in it only graphics and internal links which was effecting my rankings. I have added 100 words of text to my index file as a footer which is now showing across the whole site. Could I be penalised for showing the same 100 words on all site pages? All other pages have differing amounts of text and content.

i think not, some sites i saw have few words and all pictures, and google did not punish them at all.

yes it is true i have also visited many sites.so nothing wrong in it.google will not punish it.

If you think your footer text should be on all pages for your users have it or get rid of it because if its good for users it should be fine.

I think you will. I advice that you put your content on top of your page, so it can easily be crawled.

100 words on all site pages is a lot.You may not be penalised but will affect your ranking I guess

Google always love the content, no doubt the content rich pages always matters but for this you will not be penalized. Nothing to worry but it will be good to see your website so that i can make a final decision.

I dont think 100 words will hurt you , Its almost like a footer. Becarefull of having whole duplicate pages.

By all other pages you mean pages on all kinds of sites elsewhere?

I assume you are unlikely to get penalized. Duplicate content penalties are non-existent, it's just that you never know what page containing the exact text is going to show up on serps.

I do not think that you have much to worry about if you have the same text on your footers on the same site. PROVIDED that it makes sense to your users and has a reason for being there that is not to manipulate the SERPS or advertising units.

Honestly though I would strongly recommend that you ditch the heavy graphics and put what is needed in text. Then only put what is necessary for your users in the footer.

If you still want to use the graphics you should be using ALT tags as well.

I know as a user I hate graphics heavy sites & prefer functional sites.

You won't penalize for doing that. But if you can make every page as unique as possible, that's even better.

In my knowledge, you will not be penalized by doing that on your website. But always be sure that your site do have good, original and unique content.
