I am asking that question, because i am getting different results for my website http://www.uniquelogics.com on

google search engine. It gives different number of results when i type

once http://www.uniquelogics.com and

second link:http://www.uniquelogics.com

Can you help me to find about that issue.

Those are two completely different searches so they would naturally return different sets of results.

Your first search is asking for all pages that mention your domain. The second specifically asks for all pages that are linking to your domain. A web page can mention your domain without it being a link. Also Google doesn't show all the links they know about pointing to your site when you use the link: operator. They show a small random sample.

Using a link: operator (link:sitename.com) will just provide a sampling of links to any site.

To see a much larger sampling of links to any site for which you have verified in Webmaster Tools:

1. Sign into Google Webmaster Tools with your Google Account.
2. Click the URL for the site you want.
3. Click Links, and then click the page you want.

Note: While the External links page provides a larger sampling of links to your site, not all links to your site may be listed. This is normal.

True. Google Webmaster Tools aren't perfect, but they do give a better picture of what's going in with your site than you'll get by looking only to search results.

Been using this tool for quite some time now. And I feel like the result it gives can certainly help you picture out what's missing and what is needed for your site to increase and get better rankings and conversion.

Typing in "link:url" is the correct way to look at your backlinks. But not all BLs will actually appear in Google. If you want to determine all the links you've built for your site, use backlinkwatch.

That is true, the link command gives just a selection of links, which is greatly confusing for the newbies.

There are also speculations as to the link representation with the webmaster tools, since people claim now and again that nofollow links persistently show up, whereas they are not supposed to count, so it is possible that google uses unconventional principles for displaying the links.

Link:url is the right way to check back links in Google but remember Google will only show a sample of back links pointing to your site here. If you want to see all links use Yahoo.

I think you are confusing pages indexed by Google and Google links.

Most of the webmaster tools are not accurate and cannot rely on them.

i prefer checking my site backlinks, Pagerank and pages indexed in search engines manually as most of the pagerank checking tool shows diff results
