Needless to say I am a newbie and am having the hardest time using the google paid advertising adwords service..

I have already spent hours trying to figure out how to bring the per click rate down but its still showing at 5 or 10 dollars per click!! I understand their need to have quality search result but what is a new website or portal suppose to do if they dont have high page rank or quality score???

seems to me like they are turning small businesses away from using their advertising service!!

Is there anything a newly started business can do so they can use adwords and not go broke by their rates??

Don't use adwords! That's how you don't go broke using Adwords. I used to get my money's worth with them, and when I've used them recently I feel like I should just throw my cash in the trash.

They are good if you have all the time in the world to research everything about it, because they don't provide that information to you, but for me I have other things to worry about with my business and I make good money without them.

Yes AdWords is only worthwhile if you have a well converting site. I definitely don't recommend it for beginners. There are cheaper alternatives if you really want to do ppc. It would be much better to invest that money into seo instead. Then you can get a steady stream of traffic for long term.

Yeah that sounds like good advice to me. I have $25 free to test out. Can't wait but i don't think i will ever use it after

Adwords can be a good service, you just need to research what keywords fit best for you, and try to find keywords without that much competition!

Jeremy, could you give me a couple of different ways of how I can invest in SEO?

Would that mean that I sign up with different paid search engines??
