Hello, we are having some kind of problem with our website (http://www.liftingsafety.co.uk).
The problem is that when i do site:liftingsafety.co.uk or site:www.liftingsafety.co.uk it lists around 700>750 results, however my account in webmasters tools says that we have just 501 of the urls in our sitemap indexed by google.
(every page we have is in the sitemap.xml) Not only this but these numbers seem to be dropping on a daily basis. We have 1730 URL's in our sitemap and at one point just about all of them were indexed, we then re-vamped the site to add more useability and we have been losing pages since. We did have the information split into different tabs (which we thought might have been the problem for hiding div's) on product pages using some javascript which only showed either the default information or the information requested (click for).

Could anyone help me out and point out what they think the problem might be?

When you revamped the site did you change URLs? If you did then it's possible Google is dropping the old URLs and hasn't found the new ones yet.

When you use site operator in Google search it some times list repeated results so number of pages increases.

That sound plausable.

Deindexing is a common problem..in fact most forum threads get indexed..then as time goes on get deindexed. You are doing the right thing with a sitemap, but backlinks will ultimately cure this. I have a good strategy as well, but could be time consuming.

You have a page where all your links exist...so take that page and submit it to social bookmarking sites, write and article and link back to that page, etc...whatever you have to do to ensure it gets indexed. Once its crawled regularly (get a bunch of backlinks to that page) you will almost certainly see your indexed pages soar.

Keep in mind if your ONpage SEO isn't setup: Meta Data: titles/descrip/tags unique for EACH and every page, you won't be getting those pages indexed as SE's are like little kids and don't understand if something is truly unique because the tags are telling them it's not. Onpage + links to your sitemap = win.
