I manage a site in English which is well ranked in Google.
The owner of the site would like to add a Swedish version of the site.
What would be the more efficient domain name to obtain a good ranking on Google and other Swedish search engines:
- actualname.com/swedish
- 2 Swedish keywords separated by a dash .com
- 2 Swedish keywords separated by a dash .se

I guess if it is for purely a swedish market I would go with .se

That's tough. If you've got decent Pagerank on your domain, I would go for /swedish option.

actual domain name translated in swedish --------- Choice#1
if you can't find that then only go for a dash(-) in between
I don't think .se will help much
