Are you being plagiarized?

I was running some checks today on several new pages that are on our website, only to find a high number of competitor’s sites copying our content.

Several years ago our company came across the problem before and contacted the webmasters in question to politely ask them to stop ripping of our hard work. We were lucky and both parties in question removed our content straight away.

I’m just wondering how many other sites are being effected by this lazy way of generating content (lets face that’s what it is). Copyscape is a free content checking service that allows you to perform a search by typing in your URL and displays all the pages that appear to be using your content.

I would earge people to visit the site and perform some checks on your site. Having your content copied in this fashion is a complete violation and with Google having a duplicate content filter, it begs the question how does it effect a copied page?

WOW! Great resource! I found two sites using content from one of my pages, one was verbatim! Can you believe that...the nerve of some lazy people. I've already fired off emails to the offenders. One replied immediately with an appolgy and promise to remove by tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip! A must for any webmaster's tool box.

Cheers,

great resource, but it seems that it only checks one page at a time...it would take literally hours to see if there's any plagiarism going on by checking each page.

Anyone know of a site that can check all internal pages with one click (Fingers crossed)?

It amazes me everytime I see a post about people copying others work, I use other publishers content in some of my sections and of course make sure to contact the original author for redistribution rights etc...Yet some people just go ahead and rip-off someone’s work!

heh...speaking of...and here I am going through multiple people trying to get permission for a webmaster contract checklist. still waiting for the go-ahead after 2 weeks of waiting!

**** thieves!

Have a good weekend!
