When installing google analytics on your webpage, is it better to register every single page within your site? ..Or is it sufficient to simply register the main index page of the site... Are the results different?

Put the code on all the pages you want to track visits to. Most people would want to know of all visits to their site, not just to their homepage. I can't see the benefit of tracking visits just to your homepage.

If your site has a footer you could just add the code on the footer then google analytics can record the visits from different pages within the site. It's always better to track all the visits within the site.

This is the process of using Google Analytics-

i) To get the Google Analytics code, you have to submit a form where they will ask some information like website home page, profile name, time etc and they will generate a code.
ii) After getting the code you have to put that code before first </body> (closing body tag) of every pages.
ii) Now you have to confirm to Google Analytics about it.

After 24 hours it will start tracking all statistics about your website.

Thanks for dropping by and providing those useful links dhanjit. Unfortunately you seem to have ignored the whole point of James21's question. At least we got those links though.

Better to submit every page of your website.

It will give you a detailed analysis about your website.

If you are on paid hosting, I wouldn't heavily rely on the stats provided by GA since you can get more accurate stats from Awstats.

How? Doesn't awstats include visits by search engines and other bots?

The Google Analytics code must be placed on all pages of your site that you wanted to be tracked for traffic. That's it! SO if you want to track only the traffic of your index page then place the code there. You will only see the traffic results of your index page and as for the rest of the pages, nothing...

I only used Awstat for my Australian based handled site in the past. I would still prefer using Google Analytics.
