Wrong Description - Please help!

I was recently copying part of template from another site to create a new site for a new client. I goofed and didn't change the description in the meta data for the home page fast enough.

In Google, when the new site is searched, the description for the old site appears in the Google search description for the new site. This is bad.

I resubmitted the site to Google, but no results yet. The new site is PR3. Any ideas on how long it will take Google to re-index the site and list the new description? Is there anything I can do to get the description changed faster?

Thanks for any insights.

6 months is probably the longest it'll take to repair itself. That's my guess.

Even on proper searches (not site: searches)? Google tries to use the snippet most appropriate to the search query and this might not be from the meta description.

Google might take some time. As G is crawling your website thus make sure that you do not submit your website directly to search engines. Submit the updated sitemap to G.

Read your site logs, that will tell you the frequency of crawls. The index update will happen 3 to 4 days after the page is next crawled

I believe 3-4 days can be achieved through the help of off page optimization techniques such as the xml sitemap submission to search engine and social bookmarking. Because before, I've tried not doing these things and just wait for it to be updated. But it took me more than 2 weeks!

Thanks for all the insights. It only took about 5 days and I slipped by without a disaster. I took the suggestions from this post. Lesson Learned - remember to check your meta data when copying from one site to another!

How did you came up with that idea? tsk. tsk.

Anyway, your logs can tell when was the bots last visited your site. You might try to check it once in a while to see if it already changed. You can try making your site more visible to the bots by updating your site or build links from forums or social bookmarking websites.

Please, honestly a bit of common sense wouldn't go amiss here.

The ONLY reason spamming "StumbleUpon" would get the site updated is because it may just cause the google crawler to visit the site and reindex it.
