A competing business to my client has recently bought a sponsored link with google, and now when you search for "business category, city" they are the only ones who show up on the map. In order to get all business in the city, you have to search for "business category, city, state". This is a new development in the last month, and my client isn't very happy. Can you pay to be the only location on the map? Or is this just a quirk?

Oh, they have been added to google with their own business account, and the page has been optimized.

Unfortunately I'm stumped. Except for a few huge metropolitan areas like "nyc" or "chicago" local results shouldn't come up at all without inclusion of the state in the search string. Got any funky toolbars in your browser?
