hi everyone!
here's what i'm getting into. i wanted to run it by everyone to make sure there is nothing i'm missing or anything i haven't heard about.
we have an ecommerce site that ranks extremely well in our targeted keywords. however our domain name has 0 keywords in terms of what we are selling (its just the company name.com). the thought is if we get a more keyword focused domain, we can get ranked higher on a broader term for what we sell.
a dumb dumb language (example): lets say screwdrivers: we show up real high for "phillips screwdrivers" but are nowhere for just "screwdrivers."
using my example above, all the pages are already optimized for just the term "screwdrivers," but since it is a broader category, it is tougher to get ranked up higher.
so what i was thinking was...
buying a domain that is more keyword focused and use it as the domain for all of the catalogs/shopping cart system. leaving like the index page, help, and about us, and all our staic pages on www.companyname.com, and have links to www.keyworddomain.com for all our dynamically generated pages for which we want to generate more keyword intrest on that "broader" category. using the htaccess 301 redirect method from old domain links, to new domain links.
is there anything i'm missing?
what will google think about this?
does anyone think this has half a chance of working?
am i making any sense at all?!!
Thank you for any input ya'll might have!
