Specifically dealing with .Com domains, do any of you know if Google would prefer a .com domain over, for example, a blogspot.com domain? Assuming that they were both well optimized and had a good amount of backlinks etc.

main thing to consider is if you type in just a word such as "adsenselounge" in any common browser it will jump to the .com name by default and not the .co.uk or .eu etc

No it's not. The TLD makes no difference.

And there's me thinking it was .edu/.gov that were more important.

I feel shamed, I'll just pop off and hang my head in silent reflection for a while.

Hi

I have also been told .com is the best domain to have by many people, BUT if you search on a keyword is it full of sites that end in .com, of course not, there are many different factors involved in getting sites high up on the search engines, not just to buy a domain that ends in .com !

I think this is just an assumption because most people prefer to buy the .com address as opposed to any other domain, this will of course change as there are less .com addresses avaialble !

It is NOTHING to do with SEs or anything like that. Just merely a perception that people looking for a site will try .com if they can only recall part of the URI.
