I’ve been thinking this for some time and recently have come across a whole load of articles about over peoples thoughts. In short do you think that Google is losing its focus on providing the most relevant results?

In the past year or so I have seen what seems to be Google concentrating more on making money instead of concentrating on what made them the no.1 provider of search in the first place. Google has seemed to turn into portal search engine, what are your thoughts?

may be ur correct but the fact is that there is no good competitor of google in this field, may be if u think on the view point of searcher then google is loosing its relevance day by day due to adwords as most of the users ends up moving out of google by clicking the adwords ads which are shown at top 2 positions and on the right side.

but most of the webmasters like you are happy with google commercial nature as they are making more and more money without any efforts with adsense

With regard to there being no good competition there is. There is some really good search engines out there at present, its just the fact that most people use Google but how long will this be true?

Check out this search engine and see how good some of its features are http://www.snap.com

You see one of worst things Google has done is to devalue links. It was a great idea at the time to award sites that are linked to but now that webmasters are exploiting this most links you find are not there to because its good for the reader but instead to obtain higher rankings.

Then this lead to loads of sites being created just to be used for ranking purposes, by pointing lots of links to the owners main site clogging up the index with virtualy useless websites.

I just feel that they could a much better job and several other search engines are allready. I feel that if Google does not address this issue they will lose out big time.

I think google has really went south. The results seem to be hodge-podge. I guess if you don't find what you are looking for in the results, you'll have to click an adword...
see msn search post.

I use Google primarily for technical questions/research. Still the best search engine out there IMO.

ChicagoDude...
Give the MSN Beta a try and compare results. I think you'll like it.

I do like it. Although new, they're off to a good start. I tested them head to head this weekend while working on a project and Google still gave me the best answers though. I did find the answer in MSN, but it was on page 3 instead of in the top 3 on page 1.
