Funny thing is that I would have never even noticed that there was change unless I had read this. It does appear to be a little bigger now. Not major news but good to know either way.

I try to view the google search box but still I don't see the changes in size.

Google must have run out of ideas - bigger box is biggish news? I don't think so.

I still don't get any use of it as searching is concern. Even on the time where it was smaller you could still type in long keywords, though I don't really do that.

News to me, and actually "interesting" in itself. Guess it is time to make my meta descriptions longer? Or is this just title tag?

Why ? the Google search box width is not related to meta or title tags. Its just helps to type a big query to search

I know it won't affect the SERP itself, but hopefully a more meaningful text will get more people to actually click the link. At least that would be the hope (And thanks to GA/Webmaster tools one can even check if it helps

Just to be clear - it's about the size of the search box and the font in it, nothing else, not the length of the page description (although that one was increased a while ago, if I remember that correctly).
