Do some SEO/Link building for a keyword you want to get top in google. It is not sure once you get in a particular position in google your keyword will be stable.

This is simply call as Google dance. Don't worry for that. If you work continuous for your site than definitely you may get again SERP for your site.

well i think now you should do seo for your webiste, build backlinks for it, 6 month is not a long term for a webiste, so , just try your best to do the job and then you can see the effect

Welcome to Google dance community. It makes no wonder your pages jump back and forth. Remember Google algorithms isn't the same always. But remember it is always the same to rank for a keyword you need to show some popularity of your webpage. And the question is how you prove the popularity of your webpage? The answer is

Build some niche links and quality links my friend

It is normal!
You don't get stable rankings on SERP.
If you want to stay on top then you have to continue building links.

I would definitely agree with Chris, it's all the time!

The best point I have seen so far is the importance of "natural" links. I believe Google knows (for the most part) whether you place a link, or whether someone links to you because of your content. I have well over 600 links to my site (according to the sources I use, all are different) but only about 5 or 6 of them are "natural". My site is only a few months old and I am ranking for terms that get me traffic and convert into sales.

The links from forum sigs, blog commenting, directories, submission sites etc.. are not as valuable (I believe, and again I am not a "guru" or "expert") in the eyes of the almighty Google bot.

Concentrate more on valuable content and have some PATIENCE!

Yep - I can concur through experience! Dont believe me? Ok prove it to yourself - Choose a London Borough and add SEO after it "then Google it" and you will see my 2 week old site (since 21/11/09) in position 1 or near there abouts - nuff said then!

Oh really! I shall prove you wrong! I will build no links and see how that gets me! Though I did already add a few backlinks within my own network of sites (just to save me wasting my time doing useless submissions though really!), that I will cease to do and we shall see if I lose my number 1 and page 1 rankings.

Just continue to build more links and wait for the next update. It's normal to have fluctuation in ranking.
