PR is not important because it's just only a measurement of a website's popularity but not the quality. Try to check some sites or blogs that has high PR but very low in keyword rankings. You will notice some of them even they have PR 6 page rank they are not on top 10 while PR3 below are in the top spot.

Pr can only be important if you are selling your website or exchanging links...I dont even think it has a factor in determining serp position.. There are too many users who doesn't even know it...

Google needs to drop all visible signs of PR so we can stop having to deal with threads like this one.

If you will analyze PR according to the point of search engine and eye of visitors then pr is important for visitors. Having high PR site giving more trust to visitors and it help to identity quality site.

And given that only the insular world of newbie "webmaster", so-called "SEOs" and link beggars pay any attention to toolbar PR. How exactly does it "give more trust"?

For your own site, it is important. If you make a new page, it can rank quickly because your site is already noted as relavant by Google. Also, if you get links from high PR sites, it can also come out as a good link as "thumb's up" from other sites.

PR is good for goodwill of site but from traffic point of view keytargets are necessary.

Sadly I think you're exactly right.

pr is now not important It is not impossible". We can beat a high PR website with low PR site in specific keywords. A website with targeted inbound links with specific keyword from good relevant sites can beat other sites even if the PR is low. So in a nutshell it is the anchor text in inbound links which boost a website in google for specific keyword query.

PR is important since it represents the value of your site.But then again, PR will not bring dollars to you but traffic so focus more on the latter.

Astonishingly, despite people who "know" telling you exectly what PR is/isn't people still seem to peddle out their bizarre and totally wrong interpretations of what it is!

PR is one of the most astonishing lemming-creators ever.

I guess it still important because it serves as a good quality of your site. Like in exchanging link. But in my situation, I'm more on sticking in gaining my traffic

The only thing that is worse than not ranking well, is to lose a high rank. It's not uncommon for your site to drop off the SERP's if you lose your backlinks. If you buy links from link services that require a monthly subscription you run the risk of losing your links when you cancel. This will drop all your links and cause your search engine ranking to drop as well.
