I think choosing right keyword is the best thing to get it on first page on google. If you have a keywords which has low voulme research then its not so good to target it.

Here is one of my strategies on increasing traffic. Try to create an account on twitter then follow many people as possible (sure they will follow you back) then if you have already followers post your link and its supporting statements.

agree with chrishirst
If your site is already on first page then what is to worry about?
If you still need to increase traffic, then try some other keywords instead of "best time management".

good luck

Even your keywords are ranking high on Google if it's not competitive, it's useless to expect traffic. So you need a tool to check if your keywords are that competitive or not.

Not your fault your "boss" is so ill-informed.

Getting "first page" in Google results is very very easy, just get some links (quality doesn't matter) with some random phrase as the anchor text and there you are.

Getting real visitors and useful traffic for a specific phrase takes work and REAL knowledge, not following the usual junk "advice" dished out by "experts" on forums and blogs such as "do forum postings on dofollow sites" etc etc.
I could not agree with you more. The whole "do follow" hype is over rated. I know of someone that used USFreeAds ads (no follow ads) to rank his site #1 on Google for a rather competitive keyword. Explain that, eh?

If you are really on the *first* page, then there should be increment in the traffic. Have you tracked using analytics to check out and confirm how many visitors are arriving to your site using that keyword? Have you cross check as well using google webmasters tools on the keyword rank?

Why?

Being "first page" means nothing at all UNLESS it is for a USEFUL phrase that people are using to search with.

My site is second for a phrase that sends absolutely no visitors whatsoever!

You're keyword is competitive. Try to research another keyword that people might use for searching.

It may happen that people are trying some different keyword and your keyword may not be popular as a part of getting more traffic, find out the famous keyword as compare to your competitors and then search your site for those keywords.

You should take a look at weather your keyword has lots of monthly searches. Or maybe your contents are not that enticing to the readers.

However, even your website is in first google resulting page for the keyword phrase "Best Time Management".
For the users who searching with that keyword phrase, you might be the highest traffic website. But the total users who using this keyword phrase for searching might be very less.

Focus & optimize on all the surrounding of your keyword phrase. This technique can help you to get more traffic.

Hi,
Your google keyword search volume is not too high. You should go for some other
traffic oriented key targets.

Yep "Educate your Boss" I totally agree.

Be careful though "Employers" can be very naive.

I lost my last SEO client because the guy could not be made to see that having links to directories in categories like /pakistani-gigolos-services and /indian-massage-mumbai was the reason I needed to improve their linking and why they we're stuck down on page 3 for "london removals" when I had improved their SEO better than those listed on Google above them.

I got them "easily" "small London Removals" with a nice new page and no dodgy listed anchor text backlinks but do you think I could convince the owner of the site this was the problem

Did I heck!

As ChrisHirst said "Educate your Boss" - but tread carefully.
