Hi again,

I never believed that directory submissions can help us to at least index our pages soon. Many people says that it brings traffic. But its a sweet lie I think. It will never bring traffic.

Yesterday, we have added a dofollow business directory to our services ( Sorry chris as it didn't start as a stand alone one ). But just now i made a search to know whether the links in the directory or atleast the directory is indexed in google. But to my surprise it leads for that keyword . Previously this happened once when we started a blog and still we are on top for that keyword on google.

Our 'dofollow business directory' which started just before a day indexed soon and ranks top on google for the same keyword. I could see that there is no search for this keyword. But how this happened even without any seo?

My question is will it help the links of the directory too to be indexed soon. If so am glad..

Thanks for your time.

There is no such thing as "dofollow"

Because that is what happens to new sites and pages when SE find a link to them and index them

Directory submission can never help your inner pages get indexed quickly. That's a fallacy. I usually create Sitemap for that.

Directory submission needs approval before being indexed. So I think it will take a month or two because approval takes long especially if you are using free submission.

AS some sources are telling that sitemaps can't help to be indexed faster as well as making your website more popular or better page rank.

Just some thoughts to ponder...how many of us actually use a directory to look for a specific item or topics?
For me, I never use them anyway.

In fact, many people go to directories from a search engine, just like for any other web site. Even people who know a site put the name in the search box instead of writing the full URL in the browser.

Thematic directories have probably a significantly larger part of direct access visitors than general directories.

With regards to traffic coming through search engines, SERPs often include portals, forums, directories, booking sites, and other various sources of information (let's say for instance a tourist office with a list of local operators).

Sometimes you may find this is inappropriate. But in many queries, search engines have no other choice but produce a blank page if they exclude sites mentioned in above paragraph.

-------
edit:
Coming back to the question: Will Directory Submissions can really help to index pages quickly?

A few years ago, submitting a site to quality directories (with non delayed approval) was the usual way to get the site indexed.

Now with google analytics, adsense, google bar, and so on, google usually knows the site before submission to directories. Sometimes, however, a directory listing may still help google to find a new site or (when deep link is concerned) a new page.

Anyway, directory listing may also make a site indexed by other search engines which cannot rely on above sources of information.

Directories can take forever to submit your site and you can wait for only to find out that it is rejected. Always go for the best ones like social bookmarking and article submissions.

Directory submissions usually takes some time to get approved. And you can have some benefits if they are quality ones.
The best way to get indexed fast is to get a backlink from a trusted, high PR site.

Yes. Some high PR - crowded directories takes time to approve. But most of the other directories will approve with in a day or two

Try to get listed at Dmoz.org, spiders often visit the site, it means you will get a high crawl rate.

If you have a clear structure and navigation along with the essential things like submitting your xml sitemap and other relevant details to the Search Engine then I believe things will fall into places.
