Wow, I think that mate description is still important. So using a well written description with search terms that describe that page is a good idea. You had better do it for all your pages .

A good one . It's true . Mega tags are the informational code between <head> and </Head>. These were wrongly used by pronographic site to appear in search engine. Therefor major search engine discontinue use of Mega tags . Google donot use mega tags but i think they confirmed that they will index Google mega tags.

I don't think google dosent uses meta tag completely.
They might be using it but not giving priority to it.

After reading an article in December that stated Google might resume use the meta_desc tag I modified the structure of a database for a custom CMS I have been working on for some time to include keywords and description. Now I have those two items and the page title in the head.

I rolled that out live in mid January. In all cases I have made a serious effort to make sure that words and desc accurately reflect page content.

A couple of the pages are indexed using the meta_desc. I have also seen more interest from the Yahoo bot than I have in the past.

It is much too soon to draw any real conclusions other than if they are accurate they won't hurt you.

If I had a nickle for each piece of bad seo advice I have seen, I would be drinking something cool on a warm beach instead of sitting here typing this.

I put up a test for meta description at the end of January

Google: nothing at all, page has been indexed several times and the text shows as the description snippet,

Yahoo: Lists the page for the word

MSN/Live/Bing: Hasn't as yet caught up with the site being 301 redirected for over a year (No surprise there then)

ASK: Indexed the text shows as the description "snippet", but the page doesn't show for the word.
