Google has an understanding of the link graph of the web, and has algorithmic ways of discovering those alterations and tackling them. At best, a link spammer might spend hours doing spammy linkdrops which would count for little or nothing because Google is pretty good at devaluing these types of links. Think of all the more productive things one could do with that time and energy that would provide much more value for one's site in the long run.

It looks like Google has put more attention on contents now.
This new rule might affect blog commenting but not blogging.

Both are equally useless.

can Google tell if a link was derived from blog commenting or forum signature or directory listing? Well I pray they dont because they are the ones soliciting for "natural links" and this three means of link building are all self motivated.

All software devices have a "footprint" that could be used to identify them, so it's not difficult to determine such things automatically.

That will be really good and hope spammers also reading this and may think at least one time before going to spam blogs through comments.
