Anyone any idea when Google will be releasing www.goo/gl as a URL shortening service and I mean in the same manner as tinyurl?

And if so any ideas why?

There are so many out now I can't keep up. Plus the only real use for url shortening ( I think) is with sites like twitter where you only get a short amount of characters to speak your mind, and I know from reading a comment you left previously (can't remember where) you dislike twitter, facebook, etc..

I`m sure they`ll release this service soon but I`ll won`t you use it. I`m completely satisfied with tinyurl.com because I`m using shorted urls only in my tweets.

It's not too surprising that Google have decided to release a shortening service. Aside from Google's desire to own the Internet (which I'm not complaining about, I really like the company ), the recent rise in popularity of microblogging services (particularly the big one: Twitter) opens the market up a little for this type of service.

The fact that Google are doing it probably just means that if this is the kind of thing that you use, you will now have access to (probably) the easiest to use

Nice another source for shortening link. I really need this.
But Google URL Shortener is currently available for Google products and not for broader consumer use.

What does it means? Is it like you must be a Google user like having an account in Gmail??

Now that it is not yet available, I will stick to bit.ly. But I am eager to see what it has compared to bit.ly and tinyurl.

It means you can't use it in an attempt to hide the spammy nature of the junk link you are about to drop on some poor unfortunates forum/blog/"bookmarking" page etc.
Google products

^ For additional source of shortening url.. I just need to use it because I'm having a multiple accounts in twitter. And if I'm promoting my links and it should be in a different title and different URL. So that twiter will not banned me.. That's my tricks and it works Look I already create my short URL too.

So I was right in the second paragraph in the reason the Google one is limited then!!!

So do fondly believe that nobody can see through your deceptions lies about you reasons for using such things as "twitter".

The sooner the catch on to the stupidity and ban ALL your fake accounts and spam "members", the better it will be for all the genuine users. Assuming that among the thousands of idiots spamming each other, there may be one or two real ones.

Yeah I got it^But Its not a spamming for me because I'm just promoting my link for a ONE tweet a day.. Not others who usually do it for every minute. I just don't want to waste those accounts who have a many followers. That's why I use many shortening url because those accounts also handled in a right way by interacting to others. NOT only promoting my link at all.

I still don't like shortened URL's, I use them on twitter because tweetdeck does it auomatically, but if I just want to throw out a home page link to one of my sites I uncheck the option so people can see what I am linking to.

When I first discovered url shortening, I thought it was great for emails where links I may have provided to reference information I had found where 10 lines long, but they have been discovered by spammers and once again, something that started as a great idea has been ruined, thanx spammers %##@!!$%&*
