I've read on here that toolbar PR may not mean much so I was just wondering what it actually does mean.

My new site (been updating it for just over a month) has just gone from PR0 to PR1 so was just wondering if this is actually a postive step or actually just meaningless?

Yes, it means nothing.

Just do yourself a favor and completely forget about it, it really isn't good for anything.

The toolbar shows you the Web sites' PageRank which is updated every 3 months. Now don't be confused, the real PR of a Web site is updated by Google more frequently (it can be by the hour, by the day, by the week or by the month) in order to show relevant search results to internet users. The toolbar only reports the PR of a certain Web site after 3 months (now some say every 2 months).

IMO the toolbar at least can give you an idea about the Web site that you are visiting and at least it gives me a guide how reputable that Web sites was during the last Google PR update. And let's face it, majority of webmasters out there will judge a Web site by its PR, even if Matt Cutts himself will say not to focus on PR, link builders will continue to pursue improving their Web sites' PR.

Just sharing my opinion, congratulations by the way for acquiring a PR, keep it up.

PR is so important, you should run out and get as many backlinks from forums as you can!

PR really isn't as important as WE make it out to be, and as long as we keep drooling on it, google will keep dominating the search market.... Just my rant for the evening, haven't been here in a week or so!

Well, from my experience. PR do mean something. when i start a site from scratch. I have to build up links overtime and once I have a PR1 or above, I ultimately start ranking well for the keywords that I am targeting.

Also if I buy an age domain with a PR already on it, i get rank way faster than if when I didn't.

But again those are just my personal experiences.

None of which has ANYTHING to do with the useless toolbar PR "value".

I don't have the google toolbar, because I don't like it at all. PR have no value for me.

Use it but do not pay much attention to it. It sucks that is what I think
the whole page rank is not what it used to be

Dont compare Page rank to rankings. Being the rankings the most important factor to succeed on business.

Well i gues it is also relevant because you can see your PR from toolbar.

You're absolutely right! Most webmasters I know don't really rely on their site's PR. They are more conscious with their links.

I used toolbar PR because I consider it as positive step if my PR increase.

Is there any alternative way to check the site's PR without using this toolbar?

i think it's good as you can get a basic idea about PR.

Personally, for me PageRank tells me how reliable the information on a website is.

Not always the case though.
