I have a social networking site, and thats exactly what they are for, social networking, you cant promote ur site as most of hte links are no follow if you do manage to post any which most dont allow anyway !

They are more used to get traffic, not PR. You can get some advantage using dofollow social networks.

in my experience social network sites are not much effective for pr. because they are nofollow links

For the long term, the value for marketing on social networking sites is simply the ability to reach your niche groups through advertising, most of the sites uses nofollow links

I just want to say that pr matters. The google algo is now changed completely and it matters now more than before that a low pr website is really a difficult task for seoer to let it to the first page.

And how exactly have you come to that conclusion?

I think social networking sites does not help in terms of PR but in the value of traffic that you can gain because you use only those social networking sites for the updates of your site. Mostly social networking sites are no follow attribute.

Social bookmarking sites are not going to help your PR. Just try to get dofollow links using some anchor text and this will help your ranking. PR is not important to rank your page.

Try facebook and twitter most of the time because thety are very helpful in bringing traffic and improving your page rank
