Hi I wonder if anyone knows this,

I had 7 backlinks for a new site just indexed and in about 2 days interval the backlink count went down to 4.

Is this natural. Can Backlinks disappear ?

Backlinks will disappear if the the Web site who placed your backlinks deleted them. That is why link building is a continuous process for SEO, you just don't stop when you think enough is enough.

To give you an example, how many Web directories come and go in the Web? Far too many, so keep up the effort and keep on building backlinks.

Depending on the type of backlinks you are building, your backlinks will usually decrease a little after every increase.

This is due to several factors but the most obvious reason is because many of the backlinks you normally build, get later deleted.

In the case of blog comments, your comments could get deleted by moderators. On profiles; the webmasters will delete a big percentage of your links. Same goes for forum links etc...

In the case of Profiles Links (without mention any names or Packages) I have noticed that lately as much as 70% of my profiles are getting deleted after just a few days.

On the other hand, remember that you will never know the real # of links of an website. The number offered for Yahoo, Google and others is only an approximated number.

It usually happens with blog comments, they are not permanent links...since the moderator updates the blog or erase the posts where your backlink is, you lose a link.

Hi

Blog comments are always in no follow area. These links are not that much important. Forum signature, content link in blog post are more valuable.

Anyway its all a load of rubbish, google gives me a few thousand and yahoo gives me (just checked) and its gone down to 85,000, I wonder which is nearer the mark and if it is even worth bothering to check, as long as your up on first page for the words you want then start worrying about being the one that is clicked on.
