The PR of the "site" that links to you (i.e. the PR of the home page) does not affect your rankings unless the link to your URL exists on that site's home page.
If a site has a PR9 home page, but links to your site from an inner page w/ PR1... then that is a PR1 link, NOT a PR9 link...
And for the record, most social media/social network/social bookmarking sites don't give you great backlinks... Most are NOFOLLOW. If they are followed, the pages where the links show up are 1) not indexed, 2) very low PR, or 3) only stay indexed for a very short time. So long term, links from social media sites typically have very little (if any) affect on SEO. They are mainly good for driving traffic, not rankings.
