It depend on a lot of things:
- Your Keywords
- How many competitors? And how powerful of competitors?
- Do u have keyword on domain name?..

I think 2 backlinks with anchor text is more than enough, well, thats all it took for me to get my site zeloppyious72.com onto first page for the word zeloppyious72.

more than your competitors

it really depends on many factors such example was sited above.. there is no exact amount of back links you need. We can say hundreds,thousands and even millions but asking for "definite" amount is like finding a needle in a river bank. If you wanted your keywords to be listed in top then you should do more submissions and strategies in terms of SEO strategy.

I would suggest that such a statement means that you do NOT know SEO then.

There are lots of factor to consider: the competitiveness of a keyword (the number of compettors for a given keyword), the niche of the website, the keyword with the url, etc. There are lots of thing to consider.

Well I thought 2 was more than enough, tomorrow I shall go for the word "Sex" and try it with 2 backlinks, if that isn't enough I will double the backlinks to 4 and dominate the market......

It depends on competition. I know ipod is most saleable item in US. If I make ipod niche site and wanna use keyword "ipod" in SEO, I don't think I will go to first page of google. Simply because that word is highly competitive. Got my piece of mind?!
