Nowadays, google is not concerned about what metatag they have used for their web-pages...instead of that, google determines their page rank from no.of backilnks and relevance of your web page content (current keyword traffic)....then also you should have appropriate keyword to get listed in google...

I think meta tags are still important, especially the titles because addition of the main keywords to the web pages titles can be recommended. Although Google is believed to credit the websites with good ranks if they are powered by quality backlinks from authority sources, but contents are still very important. While writing articles for example, writing unique title tags can be a great idea.

And "meta tags" have to do with page titles because???????????

these would give confusion, PR still give weight in ranking, I would agree on relevancy but not in PR.

Some meta tags like meta title and meta description still play a role in ranking in search engines like Google.

I'm loosing my mind on this intern I was chosen for doing web maintenance. Primarily using SunShop on domain www.army-navy.com. I have brought the website grade up from a 45 to a 95 since 08-2009. But I am not doing so well with understanding the easiset way to enter META descriptions. I landed here to get some inspiration and hopefully some advice meeting new people.

There is no such thing as a "meta title".

The meta description is NOT used for any ranking purposes by Google.

Maybe they are not any good for ranking, But they are VERY useful for sites to find out about your website without using silly algorithms trying to look at your content.

Be my guest, Please everyone remove your meta tags.

Ill keep mine though.

Hi, IMHO, meta tags are no that important as before. However, it still helps your page rank if you place apppropriate keywords in it.

It helps search engine to know your niche quickly.

Of course the focus of our effort shall be on aquiring quality backlinks and generating large amount of traffic. What we have to do is just to combine the two aspects.

Meta keywords DO NOT help your page rank at all.

Google didn't ignore all the meta tags. Meta keyword tags is not that important now. However, meta description words are still used by google from time to time.

Putting keywords in meta tags is search engine friendly and visitor friendly.

The meta elements have no part in where or IF a page appears in the Google SERPs!!!

Im gonna make a search engine that ranks people based on how mnay keywords the can stuff into a meta tag and by how many sites link back to them using the new

Im gonna crawl sites like theres no tomorrow hunting down sites that actually put DOfollow in a link and have over 50 keywords in their tags.

meta tag no value.the main thing are-
quality content
anchor text
title tag

i still believe meta tags are still important factor for onpage SEO.
