They might show in the LINK: operator output and WMT but they are likely not counted. Google frequently shows NOFOLLOW links as well as links from pages known to be under penalty in the LINK operator output and WMT.

The links would have to be followed links on pages that are in Google's index to be counted (and also not be devalued because of something like being under penalty) in order to be counted. And I'm 99% sure that Facebook links are all nofollowed. Myspace I avoid like the plague because it's pretty much kiddyland and riddled w/ spyware/malware.

However, if used properly both can bring targeted traffic to certain types of sites.

The links you get are backlinks but they are mostly no follow ones.

We join these sites mainly for traffic.

And of course a blending of no follow and do follow backlinks are more natural.

And if you're in business, this could be one of among the sites you want. It has good results (about the ROI.)

IMHO, most of them are no follow links. But you can draw traffic for your site and spread the word about your business.

No, Google doesnot consider face book links as back links. did you ever see any link from facebook while you are in search of some thing?i have not see any single in my carrier. they are just good for traffic.

Hi there

I always thought they didnt count, but I was checking was of those rediculous myspace background sites backlinks and it had 100s of links from my space where people have installed their backgrounds.

So while tehy are no follow seems some of them are still listed, how much tehy count for ive no idea !

If you search "led zeppelin facebook page" you should get the real page at #1 - we can be sure Google keeps track of everything going on in Facebook.

Which of the following 2 statements is true?

Get highly ranked in Google and get famous!
Get famous and get highly ranked in Google!

Obviously the answer is the latter. If it makes sense for your business to have a Facebook page for traffic reasons you can bet Google will take note of how many times your business is showing up in the social circles.

The only links of real value relate to getting your business (or your band, charity...whatever) famous for what you specialize in.

I don't know about Facebook or myspace, but YouTube links can help in rankings, especially if you can become a you tube partner. Partners get customized pages with followed links in the header and sidebars (I have seen partner channels with PR 6). Plus the videos (if the are original and have worthy content) get ranked easily on Google for some keywords...
