Excuse my ignorance, I am completely new to this. I have uploaded a website I created yesterday, and I can search the name in Google and it brings me to my page, but the title on Google is "index of/" Do I need to do something so it shows a different title. Thanks

Nope, you do NOT have an index page or at least you do not have one that your server recognises as an index page, so it serves out a listing of the files in the root folder.

Oh, OK. Obviously I don't really understand this process at all. I have a page called index.html. When I cllick on the 'index' title in google, my whole website is there, just the way I want it to look, with functioning links etc. Is there a reference you can give me so I can learn about what you're saying?

In that case, judging by what you are saying, it could be that your site has been indexed before you uploaded the index page.

How do I fix that problem?

If that is the case, wait until Google re-cache and re-index your index page.

If you want physically done. I suggest you to make a site-map and upload to google. Though it is not at all required. It take a little time to change the link address in google.
