As said, I think it depends on the purpose of the site.
Success is decided in how many of those visitors complete the action you want them to complete.
You could have a million visits a day, but if you have a 70% bounce rate and only one of them converts, all that traffic is pointless.
I'd say pages visited means little, because it could be one or two visitors looking at everything.
Go on bounce rate, and how many of your visitors actually convert.
