I'm running an SEO campaign for a company I designed and developed a website for and so far it's going pretty well however I'm stuck on something and would appreciate advice on how to achieve this;

search term: hairdressers victoria

from here, you will see a couple of results down the "local business results" which displays google maps and 2 companies as the listing behind it. How do I get my client's website as the 3rd option or even trump the current results?

I've listed the business already and even titled the company for the keyword "Hairdressers", used it in description and in custom attributes. It has been listed for about 6 weeks now but not much movement in terms of maps/places although SERPs has progressed well.

I was wondering if there was a particular technique for places/maps since a few competitors are rather consistent with their places/maps results.

Google map results are relative to the searchers location and as usual what you see will be different to what anyone else sees.
For me, it shows results from around Preston.

Like Chris said you'll see different results based on where you are. Try adding the location to your search. That should help you see the results for that location.

As far as ranking you can start by looking through the Local Search Ranking Factors that David Mihm put together. David probably knows as much about local search as anyone.

ok, I checked today and I managed to get the company on the map list so I'm glad about that (not sure whether it was just timing or if including the search phrase as the business name did it..hmm)

My next question is;

Is it possible to climb the ladder of those listed on the maps? For example, can ( G ) Toni and Guy, if they worked on it.. climb up and become pinpoint ( A )?

I'm sure they can improve where they listed, but it won't be an overnight thing. And you do have to consider that the companies listed A-F might also be actively working to improve their rank in the local listing.
