I read somewhere that using the same link in your sig for forum posts is seen as spam is this nonsense? I know you shouldnt repeatedly get links from the same sites but surley forums are different, and if you change your sig link it changes it on every post you have made doesnt it? So you can only ever have the same links at anytime is that right?

What does common sense suggest to you??

Because that will be closer the truth than some "expert" dispensing their BS advice.

Yes it changes it on every post.

I have never heard of it being considered spam and think that is non-sense.

But part of your signature link should not just be for "link building," but actually making a useful contribution to the online community by participating in forums similar to your niche and hopefully getting direct clicks on your signature links.

Although this forum is different because we are all hear to learn how to improve our websites.........But you get the picture

Since the signature can be moderated by where it's coming from, the responsibility lies with the webmaster. As long as G still trusts the main domain you have nothing to worry about, and targeting one word or phrase over a large spectrum isn't spam, but good marketing imo.

Great post.

Opps, that doesn't add anything to the thread, as forums are dynamic and many threads totally worthless, most of our signature links won't even be in google once they have decided a thread is crap, now a nice lovingly created static web page without 100s of outbound links is the place you want your signature on, still every little bit helps anyway.

Very very very few forum threads are EVER going to have enough inbound links "passing value" to the thread to raise the "passed value" of the average sig link to much above 0!

^Yep, this thread already has 15 offsite outgoing links, taking a wild guess I doubt it has any offsite inlinks, so the value of incoming links being zero divided by 15 outgoing links means that the spread value must be, erm, probably not a great deal I suppose

According to my little tool (the one that counts links on a page!) This page has 146 outgoing links at this moment in time.

(all links on a page are outgoing because SEs rank pages not sites) Inbound links will probably number less than twenty even allowing for the aggregators and republishers which of course in their turn have very few links pointing to them.

So we have a few "unimportant" pages with a lot of links on them with one link from each pointing to this thread, which has a lot of links to share it's minimal "value" with, so it all adds up to a whole lot of nothing.

You mean you want me to change the URI so that Google has to re-evaluate all the inbound links???

Some SEO experts think that search engines only take one signature link from each forum posted. Obviously, forum signatures are totaly, self-promoting. That is why for SEO purposes, it is better if you participate in different forum sites.
