The number and even quality of links may be only some of the factors Google considers before giving websites some ranks. The contents are still important, not the ones being written artificially and loaded with keywords but the ones which would picked by other webmasters and after some time a lot of traffic and links would be followed. The content rich websites usually are performing greatly online.
