I'm starting out with a new website called removed and I have been trying to figure out how to get google to bring up this site when the search terms "2010 witness", "news witness" and "report your news" are used. Previously it wasn't showing up at all for these keywords. So I subsequently added these keywords in some text on the website, in the title meta tag, and in ALT tags to several images on the site. It hasn't been crawled yet and I was wondering if anyone with experience could tell me if this was really sufficient for getting the site to show up reasonably high in such google searches. Are adding these things enough? How much weight does google put into each of these things?

Do you think you can get on top without doing any kind of link building. The days have gone when Google was considering only keywords to get website ranked..

if you site got index by google without submitting it to google it would rank but if not you should build links and submit your site to google. What you did is good but it need to be follow by link building.

You're gonna optimized your site for a relevant keyword, when somebody searches for those particular keywords, and those same keywords are optimized well on your website, your site will actually get a higher rank or placement in the search engines.

1 check your site title, description, tile cannot be like "2010 witness | news witness | report your news", if description, tag, content both has the same format, google will mark your site as spam. Body Content include internal links cannot be more than 3. Same Keyword cannot be repeat three times in contents, one time is quite enough. If you know how to write keyword related articles.

2 submit your site to social bookmarks, like faves, folkd, delicious.com will help your site been generate by google within one month. Don't forgot use google webmaster tools.

3 if more than three months, site still haven't be generate by google, check the online domain name black list. Some previous owner made the site into google black list. That will be never generate by google in life time.

Really, I heard a rumour that wiki was employing Mr Singhs & Mr Patels SEO Co' to build up back links for them, forum posting and filling out directories and stuff like that, I also heard that wiki wanted blog posters and are willing to pay the big bucks for links on posted comments on blogs, really can't beat unorganic inlinks if you have a crap site.

The only way you have top get ranked high in Google is to get backlinks. I suggest you to add all of your website to social bookmark websites. In this case your website will be indexed faster and also it helps you to rank higher in results.
