Absolutely nothing to do "superiority" the "100 links" it was a common sense limit AT THE TIME and that was some twelve - fifteen years ago, when web design and designers were in their infancy.
You have to remember that at that time monitors were 13" or 15", screen resolutions were minuscule by todays standards.
The very best was 1024x768 and most users were running 640x480 and 800x600 in 256 colours
Javascript and CSS collapsing menus were non-existent, so 100 VISIBLE links was a sensible limit to have on a page to avoid confusing users.
In NEVER was a limit set by Google for Google, it was a recommendation to designers not to get carried away and pack the page(s) with links.
As I pointed out earlier in this thread there are 312 links on the home page of this forum.
