I am really coming to believe that nofollow inlinks are probably just as good as inlinks without a nofollow from low end pages for serps, now let me qualify what I mean by low end, a page that gets 10 to 20 visits perday, ie of little interest to the world in general.

So I got me a website with around 7 or 800 pages on it plus a forum, everyday I do a bit of work on interlinking the pages, but generally these are no follow links to pages that google has already indexed, 1 page in particular I noticed, for 3 or 4 years it has sat at 9th or 10th on first page of google, occasionally it nips onto second page of google for a holiday or whatever, but never raised higher than 9th, it's now zoomed into 6th place, it does not deserve 6th place and isn't a page i would bother promoting, the only difference between now and the past 3 or so years is it has maybe 10 more nofollow inlinks which I put in over the last couple of weeks.

I have noticed this a lot with other pages of mine, and it really does seem that nofollow inlinks do influence your serps.

I have found from my experiences of Link Building that a right combination of Do follow and no follow links is ideal for SERP. No follows links adds value to Link Diversity concept and makes the appearance of Link Building methodology quite natural.

For me, a link is still a link; no matter whether it is a do follow or not. they might just differ from how Google weight each link; but I believe that they both have values or factors in SERP.

I think that do follow links are more helpful for SERP instead of No follow links. I am slightly agree with camelia that a good combination of do follow and no follow links is the most effective way of link building.

Or it could be that the link, regardless of the no-follow tag, allowed Google to re-find a page that had not been indexed in some time?

I believe there is no do follow and no follow with google yes they are all the same link but it depends on the site you are linking with.

For me, no follow links still help us especially in driving traffic to your site.

Quick Poll Question: Which one will you prefer here?

1. Do Follow Unrelated Link
2. No Follow Related Link

This is true. There was time when Google didn't considered no-follow but today it has been found that Google is considering no-follow links as well!

And which Googler can you quote on this? My guess is the jump from 9th to 6th has less to do with nofollow links and more to do with other factors unknown to the poster.

Generally speaking, our rankings have much less to do with what we do and more to do with what others do. There are FAR too many ranking factors and constant changes to the algo for anyone to definitively infer cause and effect today without repeatedly testing the same hypothesis and consistantly getting the same result.

The boost could have been due to an algorithm change. It could have been due to ONE single, quality link that you don't even know you now have. Or maybe an old URL that linked to you had changes to its own content or its own backlink profile that caused your page to get better rankings. Who knows... But NOFOLLOW links would likely be the last thing I would attribute ranking changes to.

Be careful when making assumptions such as these as it is absolutely impossible to create "controlled experiments" on the web where only ONE variable is being altered at the time. The web is very fluid... you have limited data about your backlinks... you have limited data the ranking algos...

Personally, I have seen zero direct affects from NOFOLLOW links in Google rankings. Last I read or saw in videos from Googlers like Cutts, them state emphatically that NOFOLLOW links, even ones from authoritative sites like wikipedia, have absolutely no impact on rankings. So until someone emperically proves otherwise or until I observe results that appeart to indicate otherwise, I'll have to assume that is the case based on my observations.

Then you got a wrong thought. No Follow links are still valuable in different ways.

No follow links may not have much affect on SERP's but watch this video Matt Cutts did about no-follow links and why they are relevant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g37bwBlifnk

I think that do-follow links helps in ranking up the PR whereas no-follow links are best to increase SERP. But to have the best linkbuilding method to your website, i would suggest you to use both as their combination is the best for any site.

So you are just giving out interlinks to that page and there are no external links coming to that page? If this is the fact then this is nice to find that Google is considering no-follow links as well!
