The music plays and the dancing starts......

Just kidding...basically....your site ranking "bounces" around for awhile and then settles into a SERP....

The Google dancing refers t the ranking fluctuations of newly launched websites which yet do not enjoy some fixed positions. By addition of links, gradually the dances would diminish and would come to a halt.

Google Dance - The Google Dance refers to when Google indexes are updated. This period of time often results in fluctuations in the index size and some noticeable changes in search engine result positions. The fluctuation is due to each of Google's nine datacenters being updated out of sync - meaning for a time the results are different. Owners of websites often get very nervous during this "dance sessions", but if I site is built properly and utilizes best practices they will generally fall back into their normal position once the "dance" subsides.

once google indexes a brand new website and finds it relevant to some keyword - it gives a website a chance to rank for this keyword... so within a couple of next weeks the website may appear on the 1-2-3 pages for that keyword and google analyzes how it performs there.. if people don't click it.. or click it and bounce - the website will drop.. but if lots of people click it and don't continue their search - the website will stay somewhere around in serps... i don't remember where I got this understanding..

but just 2 months ago we have launched a new website.. it immediately appeared on the 2nd page for it's keyword.. than was "dancing" a little.. and now as we were building links and promoting website it's on the first page!

But i think Google dance will be happened for getting a lot of backlinks fast. Then Google will be shocked and penalize your website. Its my idea about Google dance.
