Google bombing used to the sh|t back in the day. Now a days it doesn't work as well.
Case in point: I had a local jewelry store rip me off. They are pretty well known in the area and pretty big (like 13 stores or something). So since I am a big fan of pissing people off, I registered a domain that was exactly like theirs but had a hyphen in it. Then wrote a one page site about my experience and how they screwed me over and within 3 or 4 weeks of posting and bombing it, if you searched for anything near their name on any search engine my site bashing them came up first. I got a lot of e-mails from people saying they were going to buy something from the company but now changed their mind after reading my page. These I passed along to the company so they could enjoy too. A few months of that they made a deal to refund my money and tried to buy the domain from me. The price wasn't high enough so it's still up. And after all these years still at #3 on Google.
tl;dr
It used to work well, now it's not weighed as much.
