Google is continuing through the web in real time with software known as crawlers, or Google bot. A robot visits a page, copies of the content and follow the links on this page to pages linked to it, repeating this process several times until it has explored the billions of pages on the web. Next Google treat these pages and indexes, as the index in the back of a book. If you think the Web as a huge book and Google's index is a list of all words on those pages and where they are, and information on the links in these pages, and so on. The index is divided into sections and stored in a vast network of computers around the world.
