I'm a webmaster of a website in The Netherlands with 30.000 visitors a day.
The website is running on the .nl (Neterlands) and the .com with English content. Bot sites are launched at the same time but still I don't get much traffic from the usa, like 150 visitors a day.

The .com has more indexed pages than the .nl. My server is located in The Netherlands. Even I have more links to the .com than the .nl website.

I hope some one can help me to give me some points to look at.

If you want to reach US customers you need to host in the US. Google gives preference to American hosted websites.

Is there more competition in the SERPs for the USA?

You get less traffic from use because your site ranking that's targeting USA has lesser ranking compare to the with .nl. This maybe had happen because USA has a higher competition.

and the .com with English content.

most webmaster are focusing in US, have you tried to see your ranking in Google US? if you have good serp in Google US there is a possibility you got traffic from US.
