Google only shows backlinks in your site is after an update. This case is for new sites but if your site has already pagerank, then it's updating.

For sure, but in most cases, the forum content is irrelevant for your targeted keywords and landing pages.
My favourite method is article directory. It takes more work and time, but i'm going with quality for now.
Anyway all methods have their pro's and con's, so all need to be done.
