I’ve noticed that a lot of people are confused about Page Rank on this forum.
Recently I spoke to someone that had a Page Rank 4 homepage, and some internal Page Rank 3 pages, this person then went on to say how good he was at SEO, and even asked me why my site was not Page Rank 4+
Was that person a better SEO than me?
I then went on to say, “how much traffic do you get from the search engines?” His reply was unknown. I didn’t even bother asking him how much related traffic he gets.
I took a look at his site, and noticed that his title attribute only had his brand name included, and the majority of his pages had duplicate content.
After looking into his link profile, the only links I could see were from a major paid business directory that passes page rank, this was due to the fact that he had a premium listing.
The only phrase that he was ranking for on Google was his brand name, yes he was number 1 for that name, BUT, no searches were being made for his brand, also there was no competition for his brand name.
So, the moral of this story is, Page Rank does not increase rankings on Google.
Page Rank is good for getting back links to your site, but, how do you know the Page Rank of a site? Google only updates there visible Page Rank every 3-4 months on average (at the moment the Page Rank tool bar has not been updated for 8 months)
So if you’re looking to increase your rank on Google, I recommend looking at the following:
1. Keyword research + competitive analysis
2. On Page SEO (equates to only 5% ranking on Google)
3. Links (equates to 95% of ranking on Google), actual Page Rank LINKS, Domain Authority, Page Authority, anchor text, Relevancy.
From my own experience relevancy is not a major factor when ranking on Google. There’s a lot of stipulation regarding relevancy, but I suggest making your own tests to see how effective relevancy is.
I will say this for the last time. PAGE RANK DOES NOT RANK YOUR SITE IN THE SERPS.
Good luck, and I hope this information is helpful for ranking your own site in the search engines.
