Recently I was working on one wordpress project, i used one plugin in which the plugin author added his website link inside a hidden <div> using CSS for better page rank.

Does that trick is legal? i mean does google will ban if any website uses this kind of technique to get back-links.

That is blackhat SEO and the site will see no benefit from it.

People do some some stupid things for something so useless.

its not legal, remove it immediately it happen to me a long time ago good thing it just happen on my blog.

Definitely a BAD idea to use such a plugin. It's a shame that plugin developers resort to such tactics that can get YOUR site in trouble just by using their plugin.

Hidden link are counted as black hat technique. I suggest u always try to avoid this kind of technique of website promotion.
