Hi new here and was very confused about a google custom site search wehave on our website. If I go and do a search on 36v, it returns 9 results. One of the results has a title of

"6S6-Replacement Light bulbs- light bulb and Lamp resource."

The strange thing is that "title" is nowhere on this page in that form. I thought this would have been the page title itself listed here, which is:

"Miniature Replacement Light Bulbs-Miniature Light Bulbs-Numbered Lamps"

Can anyone enlighten me on how google came up with this search result title?

btw, when I perform a search on our site with a new search feature we will be using soon, it finds the same page WITH the correct page title.

Even at Google.com, Google has been customizing the title shown in the search results for years. Typically they show the page's <title> element, but if they feel a page is relevant to a search phrase (for example, because of link text of inbound links) but the <title> of that page does NOT seem relevant to the search phrase, they will often build their own "title" that IS relevant to display in the SERPs based on other factors (like link text of inbound links).

They do a similar thing with the snippet. If your meta description is relevant to the search phrase (i.e. if it contains every keyword from the search phrase) then Google will typically show the meta description as the search snippet. Otherwise they construct their own snippet using content from the page that contains the keywords from the search phrase.
