Hello everybody!

This question is about the meta-descritiption.

I want it to show up in my search results. It describes my site perfectly.

My site is about a specific herbal supplement. The keywords in the site relate perfectly to the words I put in my meta-description.

My site is all about a specific substance.

The meta-description that I entered for my site is: keyword-Traditional Uses-Clinical Trials-Extract and Shopping Resources

I entered this because this is what anyone googling this term would be interested in, either info, or shopping.

I've heard multiple explanations for this, and I hope the people here can help me out.

I've heard that it should be a specific length, but changes make no difference, and it gets crawled daily.

I've heard it needs the keyword, but it has the keyword, and everything else is relevent.

I really want it to show up because it perfectly describes my page and what people are looking for, it could help me stand out.

So why won't it show up?

Btw, it's a wordpress site.

I,ve been looking at some of my competition, and how they appear in search results.

Many come up with what appears to be their Meta despription listed on the search results page.

The messed up part is that the description showing up for their websites is complete BS.

EXAMPLE: for a description of their site on the Google results page, it might say "Clinical studies, historial uses, discovered by.... blah blah blah" But when you go to the site, there is nothing but a list of products for sale.

Is their Meta description showing up simply because they have no real information on the site to display? I notice many times product sites will have pictures of the products displayed.

If people keep using their Meta descriptions to mislead people, it wouldn't suprised if Google stops using them altogether.

But I still would like an accurate description of my site to show up on the results page, not just a snippet from the first paragraph.

I've considered changing the initial text on one of my sites home pages so that a more complete description would be displayed in the search results.

But the site just jumped up to a #2 rank on Google and I'm a little paranoid about changing important text.

Any thoughts?

Google will show text that matches the USER QUERY not something that matches the PAGE (not site).

And if the meta descruption fits that scenario, they will use it, if not, the text snippet will be created from text found on the page using words that surround the search words or phrase.

Update: OK everybody, I think I've been a little impatient with the search engines.

The site I mentioned above has only been indexed for a few weeks.

After it was indexed, I tried everything to try to get the meta description to show up, nothing worked.

Now the meta description comes up in every search, in all 3 big SE's.

If you have this problem with a new site, and your meta description is highly relevant, maybe just give it a month.

Very relieved...

I must learn to be more patient.

the other day, i told my friend to change her blogspot meta keywords and description, she change it at morning and afternoon its already change in search engine. i just follow the instruction on google "help" (guide).

i think, the description must be including all the keywords you choose, make them in good phrase and its must be NOT too short. i didnt use too much keywords to put on meta tag, two keyword enough. why we need so much keywords on meta tag? i thought tittle post is also keyword, isnt it? since i dont chase to be in top serp..well..o.O i dont care much about keywords for my tittle post...i just blogging normally.

last week, i found ALL ppl in my group using wrong way for keywords and description, they blogging for yearsssssss and didnt know how to make good keywords and description on metatag. this is soo sad, shocked me . unbelieveable!!! i go to google forum (help) or come to this forum when i need correct information.

Hey friend it is not necessary that google will look at your meta description. It will sometime ignore in some of the websites. Google only reflects quality data. If google feels that your meta description carries quality data then only it will reflect on the search engine.

The best option in this is add a quality and unique content on your webpage. Just try to target the keywords in the content with <strong></strong> tag. Google gives priority to the <strong> tag. This will definitely work and google will show your webpage content with keywords highlighted as it is ignoring the meta description.
