The affiliate program that I use has alot of the same advantages as adsense, mentioned by the OP.

Lots of merchants-ads targeted to search term and buyer location-many different countries.

It's actually easier to use than adsense, you can go from signup to putting ads on your site in about 5 minutes. And no worries about getting banned.

But I'm actually going to start using more adsense because I'm seeing the cpc for some of my terms going up into the $3.00 range, if it goes back down, I'll use less adsense.

I've used a few and none of them were as good as Adsense,

Other advertisers really slow down my site, but Google manages to keep that to a minimum.

May I point some obvious things as well? Looking directly into the sun will burn your retinas. Eating poison is dangerous to your health...and may kill you. A tree falling in the woods with nobody around to hear it, still makes a sound "wave" even if "ears" don't absorb it to interpret it as a "sound". Oh yes, and back to the point...the extra money thing.
